Well written piece. The results of this election and fear over how much worse it will likely get is what pushed me from "considering leaving" the classroom to "actively looking" for new employment.

Lauren, I applaud you. This is one of the most clear-minded, strategic, openhearted pieces I've read since this travesty unfolded. I didn't know your grandparents worked for school desegregation! I'd like to know more about that sometime. My parents did too. Big love from across town. oxoxo

The teacher exodus that has been happening for years will now likely accelerate. The lack of appreciation fuels this trend and seems encouraged by politicians fueling claims parental opinions rather than professional expertise should be the basis for decisions. Unfortunately teachers with far more exposure to children with many different characteristics cannot challenge parents even in their own classrooms.
